Angular Contact Ball Bearings
Fafnir angular contact ball bearings are designed for combination
radial and axial loading. Single-row bearings have high thrust
capacity in one direction. Some single-row bearings are specifically
designed for duplex mounting in sets for maximum performance.
Double-row Conrad bearings can accommodate thrust in both
directions.
The special geometry of angular contact bearing raceways and
shoulders creates ball contact angles that support higher axial
loads. Different designs offer contact angles ranging from 20° to
40°. Higher angles provide more axial load capacity for longer
service life operating under axial and radial loads.
Typical Applications
- General industrial
- Chemical
- Utilities
- Agricultural
Expanded Options
- Special lubricants
- Special cage materials
- Special preloads
- Special coatings for corrosion resistance
Size Range: 12mm - 150mm bore

Superprecision Ball Bearings
Fafnir superprecision ball bearings are designed to meet
demanding machine tool requirements for high speeds, accuracy and
rigidity. These bearings are available manufactured to ABEC-7 and
ABEC-9 tolerances, the most precise tolerances recognized by the
ball bearing industry.
Most superprecision ball bearings have contact angles of 15° or
25° for different combinations of radial and axial loads. Special
raceway finishes and ball bearing designs achieve the highest
possible operating speeds.
Hybrid ceramic
bearings are available with steel rings and ceramic balls for
special applications involving high speeds and other demanding
requirements.
Ballscrew support bearings are supplied in sets with 60° contact
angles and a maximum ball complement for the high capacity and axial
rigidity required for the most precise tool positioning.
Typical Applications
- High-speed grinding
- High-speed boring and milling
- Precision vertical and horizontal milling spindles
- High-speed routing
Expanded Options
- Custom preloads
- Special lubrication
- Special marking
- Quick change bearing modification service
- Bearing and component kits
Size Range: 10mm - 200mm bore

Airframe Ball Bearings
Fafnir airframe ball bearings are produced in two basic designs for
the exacting demands of commercial and military aircraft. They are
specifically designed to meet requirements of extreme temperature,
low torque, high loads, misalignment and low mass.
Fafnir control bearings generally consist of an inner and outer
ring with a complement of precision balls, a seal or shield and, in
some cases, a cage or separator. These bearings are typically used
in flight control surfaces. The full-complement type is intended for
applications requiring high loads and oscillating motion. The
cage-type is intended for low torque, lighter loads, intermittent
rotation and long life. Fafnir control bearings are available with
either standard or precision tolerances. Torrington is a qualified
producer of control bearings as specified under MIL-B-7949.
Fafnir rod end bearings are sealed unit assemblies with an
integral shank for mounting. A spherical outer raceway and either a
double row of balls or a single row of spherical rollers permit up
to ±10° of misalignment between the inner ring and outer ring
(banjo). Shanks can be supplied with internal or external threads,
hollow or solid. Torrington is a qualified producer of rod end
bearings as specified under MIL-B-6039 and NAS standards.
Typical Applications
- Aircraft pulleys
- Torque tubes
- Hinges
- Bell cranks
- Push pull rods
Expanded Options
- Seal designs and materials
- Component materials
- Lubricant selection
- Corrosion-resistant coatings
Size Range: .190 in. bore - 4 in. O.D.

Wide Inner Ring Ball Bearings and Housed Units
Designed for ease of mounting, Fafnir wide inner ring ball bearings
carry radial, axial and combination loads. The assembly consists of
a single-row ball bearing with an inner ring that extends on both
sides for maximum shaft support. The extended inner ring slips onto
the shaft and is attached by a self-locking collar or setscrew
locking device. In either style, the bearing can be positioned
easily on the shaft without shoulder, locknuts or adapters.
Wide inner ring ball bearings are commonly supplied as inserts in
housed units for greater ease of mounting. The inner ring locking
device attaches to the shaft, while bolt holes in the housing
simplify assembly to machine frames. Self-aligning features further
facilitate installation.
Housed units include pillow blocks, flanged cartridges, cylindrical
cartridges and take-up units. The standard housing material is cast
iron. Fafnir TDC® coated bearing inserts with nickel-plated or
polymer SURVIVORTM housings resist
corrosion in difficult operating environments.
Typical Applications
- Agriculture
- Fans and blowers
- Food processing
- Conveyors
Expanded Options
- Advanced metallurgy
- Special coatings for corrosion resistance
- Special designs for high speeds and high temperatures
- Enhanced lubrication features
Size Range: 1/2 in. - 4-15/16 in. shaft (15mm - 75mm shaft)

Precision Ball Screws
Fafnir precision ball screws provide controlled linear
motion for accurate positioning and efficient performance in
drive axes of machining centers, robotics and similar
applications. These advanced units consist of controlled
induction-hardened screws with case-hardened nuts and rolling
ball elements. Optimized ball track geometry produces enhanced
load capacity and running accuracy.
Custom-designed for machine tool manufacturers, Fafnir ball
screws are offered in the highest precision classes available,
from ISO Class 1 to the lower tolerances of ISO class 7. The
design simplifies installation with balls circulating internal
to the nut without any external tubes or clamps protruding
from the surface. Ball screws are available in a variety of
lengths, diameters, lead combinations and lubricants.
Typical Applications
- CNC machining centers
- CNC turning centers
- Automated assembly machines
Expanded Options
- Ball screw and bearing kits
- Variety of ball nut configurations
- Special designs
Size Range:
Lead: 2mm - 40mm
Diameter: 16mm - 125mm
Length: 500mm - 8200mm
